European regulations establish the business requirements for euro credit transfers and direct debits taking place between countries of the Union. One of the main consequences of these regulations is the use of common payment instruments, credit transfers and direct debits, within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This creates a single market for euro payments, necessary for the proper functioning of economic transactions in the internal market. The European Payments Council (EPC) defines and manages these instruments for use in SEPA together with a set of common rules and standards (ISO 20022) that must be respected by all parties involved.
To facilitate the initiation of mass payments by customers in the Spanish market, the Leaflets of the banking rules and procedures series are defined, which allow the issuance of credit transfers, including instant transfers, or the initiation of SEPA direct debits, in accordance with applicable European regulations.
